Dear Mr. / Ms.,
I’m writing to express my interest for the iOS Engineer position at Airbnb. I’m currently working as an iOS consultant, and I have developed several apps.
As a user of your product, I enjoyed my experience immensely, for many reasons. First of all, the interface is useful, beautiful, and the user experience is outstanding. It is always a pleasure to spend some time on airbnb.com, if only for the time spent dreaming of living in one of the well-designed loft and houses.
I am fairly confident that working at Airbnb is a thrilling experience. From my limited knowledge of its innerworkings, Airbnb appears to be the type of company that values people for their hard work. It's also clear that Airbnb focuses on people first, I too focus on people and human values first, and then work to build something with the users best interest and functional needs in mind. Your engineers are passionate by their work, and it’s always a pleasure to work with that kind of people.
On your website, it is obvious that the focus is on learning. This is, for me, one of the most important things in our line of work. I am passionate about learning and continuing to find ways to educate myself, whether that be a new iOS framework, a new programming language, or things about Art in general. It is this passion to continually learn that fuels my desire work with good engineers who care about quality of their code and their product.
I’m sure I can learn a lot of things at Airbnb, and I know my experience thus far could be a great asset to you.
I have spent the last 2 and a half years building iOS apps and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am passionate about creating beautiful apps with a good user experience.
Maintaining superior quality in my work has always been one of the things I strive for. I write test driven code, and I’m always trying to find a better way to write a method. I think quality is not an option if you want to have a good product and to maintain it properly.
To have good idea of a project quality, I like to run automated builds on Continuous Integration server (Jenkins). It gives me metrics like code coverage, code duplication, and of course allows me to ship apps over the air, just by pushing a button!
When I’m not coding, I enjoy taking analog and Polaroid pictures, meeting new people, travel, playing badminton and snowboarding. I also like spending time in museums.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and having the opportunity to discuss how I could bring a fresh perspective, diligent work ethic and passion for user-friendly quality to Airbnb.
